Hopefully, you are looking for a 11.6 inc netbook because of school or as a business travel aid.
For starters:
This netbook looks great, nice eye candy with a cool inner detailed keyboard pattern. The Nile platform, from AMD, is great. It can handle youtube 720p very smoothly. Handles aero very nicely. The sharpness of the screen is awesome, much better than my HP DV5T and Eee 1005ha i own.
In my opinion, the most important features one is looking in a netbook are the battery life and the keyboard/mousepad.
The keyboard is indeed better than my 1005ha 10.2 inch Eee PC. it is advertised as full size, but it is not. if you have big hands, i would say stay away. if you can type easily, or at least with a good degree of confidence with 10.2 inch netbooks you would feel much better with this one. Honestly, the keyboard size is almost a full. The only full size is the inner part of the keyboard, meaning the letter section. the rest of if, including enter, F keys, tab, shift, are shorten. still very good feel to the keyboard. THe only downturn is the space bar; it is small and sometimes it doesnt get actually space out. The mousepad is large and it feels like there is no much drag. very good in my opinion. i like it better than the draggy HP Dv5t i own.
Battery:
I would stay away from this netbook if you are looking for a 5+ hr on battery. actually i can even get it pass 4….. i tested the battery both at full performance, with the lcd screen at 50% constant streaming hulu for 3hr and 34m and installation of Ms Office 2007. i had 13% left in the battery when i decided to plug it back in. I know, if i would have just browse the internet, without videos and too much flash activity i could have gotten more juice out of it.
Toshiba includes an eco mode (to save battery life). Honestly, it sucks. The eco mode decreses the performance of everything, including the wifi, processor, video. The battery lasted for 3hr and 40 m with a painful stream of hulu at not even full screen. On regular mode, or with eco off, hulu was fine at full screen 480p and youtube 720p was also perfect.
I presume that for notetaking it would actually go for 4 1/2 hrs. that is without having too much internet activity. Something like a lecture in school or so. The battery does such tho. Better go with a Asus Eee with 8hr+. (at least my netbook does close to 8 1/2.
The Processor
The Athlon II Neo is way better than the Atoms, at least the N270 i have on the Eee. I do not regret having the Neo in this, but AMD has to work with the battery life in this. According to one of the many annoying blotware toshiba utilities, there is one that allows you to see the power consumption of the netbook. It was doing around 15w.
Decision:
Dont buy it if you are looking for a full day computing. The main reason to buy a netbook is pretty much for word processing, browse the internet, and battery!. This would be a waste of money if you are looking into those. Dont get me wrong, i like the netbook a lot. especially because it allows HD playback. but if you are a college student like me, get something that will allow you to take note in all your classes.

Bought for husband as travel-laptop. Just got in today.
Let me say this laptop will be sufficient for some daily use. It is a good laptop for the price. Fast enough ( but not super speedy). Doesnt feel really heavy to me, but then again, I normally carry around a 17 inch dell. Very nice looking. Overall, very good for browsing and email. Probably really good for a student or light to medium usage. Im a heavy user and KILL laptops, so I dont think this one will last too long is you are rough on your laptops. Good specs. Started up out of the box. Would recommend though.
Cons:
-Installed software. There is A LOT of it! Slows down the computer on start up horribly.
-It was FILTHY! I know its refurbished, but at least you could take a can of air and blow out the cat hair and food crumbs (Im literally serious)! Come on, Amazon! If you buy this, purchase some canned air to blow out the keyboard and monitor as it was GROSS! Again as a heavy user, I know a gross laptop, and that one put mine to shame. Im going to have to pop the keys out and scrub with Qtips.
-Small scratches around the monitor. Nothing major, just figured I would mention it because some people are really picky.
-Packaging/Delivery. No bubble wrap or padding whatsoever. Came in a large box ( like a laptop normally would), but just had cardboard to hold in place and skrink wrap to prevent scratching. No padding between keyboard and monitor either. No protection at all (aside of the plastic bag on the outside incase it rained). The box wasnt dented, but if it had been, I worry about what could have happened. Speaking of which, FedEx left it outside on my porch ( in 95 degree heat) when I didnt answer my door (didnt even require a signature I guess), so make sure you are home for your delivery otherwise, someone might walk off with your new-to-you laptop. :/

I just recieved this laptop today. Didn’t know that this laptop would be so big. I’ve been researching which laptop to purchase and I came across this one. I’ve had previous laptops from alienware, dell, apple, ibm thinkpad, etc. This laptop is by far one of the best, jaw droppingly beautiful, extremely fast, laptops ever.
The design of this laptop is superb with black and red all over the place. The illuminated keyboard makes everything clearly visible and not to mention super fast with 4 gigs of ram. Upon first boot, it gave me some errors about lan ethernet not being connected by it was easily fixed when i jumped into system bios and change the setting.
The weight of this laptop needs some getting used to because it is 11 lbs. It is a bit on the heavy side. Also, I was a little hesistant because it came with only 500gigz of hdd space but after feeling the speed and seeing the size of the 18″ 1080p HD display, I’d say it was worth it.
The Harmon Kardon speakers are super crisp sounding and the touch music buttons on the left side of the keyboard makes playing media easy. The best thing about this laptop is that it comes with a numeric keypad that most laptops do not come with to save space. I use the numeric keypad alot daily. This is a key reason I chose this beast, for speed and the keyboard layout. All the extras that it comes with made my decision clear.
If your looking to replace a desktop but want a big display with superb quality and decent size with a numeric keypad, this is definately one of the laptops you should consider.

Returned in a day. Cheap screen – glossy like a mirror and terrible viewing angles (about 5 degrees in the portrait mode!), wobbly on the lap. HP designers need to be ashamed of themselves for letting the product out before fixing sch glaring issues.

I’ve been using this tablet for about a month now, as my primary laptop. It replaced the previous model, the TX2, which I used for about 18 months. While the TX2 was very cool, it was also painfully slow, had a grainy screen, and terrible touch screen recognition. All of these issues have been fixed with the TM2.
The laptop is powered by the new Intel Core i3 processor, which is very fast. Once you’ve uninstalled the bloatware that comes on all HP machines, this is easily one of the faster sub $1,000 laptops available. Photoshop CS5 runs just fine. The multi-touch and pen inputs are very accurate, and the keyboard is quite comfortable. The screen is much improved over the previous model, and the picture is very clear and bright. The viewing angles are sub-par though, and the screen is super glossy.
Taking notes in Microsoft OneNote on this tablet is a wonderful experience. The included stylus also includes an eraser, which is a big help. Navigation with a finger and the virtual keyboard is also very good. I probably spend about half my time in tablet mode, without needing the keyboard and touch pad.
All said, this is probably the best consumer tablet PC on the market.
PROS:
-Tablet is quite fast. Multitasking is great with 4GB of RAM.
-Stays very cool, even with so much packed into such a small area.
-The tablet is absolutely gorgeous.
-Great Battery Life. 5-6 hours easily.
CONS:
-Incredibly Glossy Screen
-Sub-par viewing angles
-Too much pre-installed bloatware (although this problem plagues most consumer PCs)

I absolutely love the MacAir – it’s very light, has many more features than a PC, it’s faster, everyday I find new things that I’m impressed with. My only complaint is the brief manual does not make going from a PC to a Mac very easy. I have used computers for many years but I am not a whiz with computers. I have not gone through the tutorials on line – which I may have to do. I purchased a book that claimed it explained everything you needed to know about converting from a PC to a Mac – very disappointed. I like to “read” from a manual/book how to do something specific. That’s the only reason for a 4 Star.

I’m a PC, but I’m also a Mac. A Macbook Air (MBA) to be exact. I’m very much into design so it just made sense. I first considered something like the Dell Adamo, Latitude Z or the HP ENVY13, But the Dells were heavily under-powered processor-wise. The HP was crazy powerful, but heftier than I would have liked. The Latitude’s Euro design gave the MBA’s design a run for it money, but it starts at over two grand and you’ll easily knock on $2500 with the bells and whistles, Yikes! The HP ENVY 13 is very powerful and the only ultra-portable with the i7 processor. But for what I’ll be using this for, the mobility and price is more important to me. The Adamo seemed to match the price and features of the Macbook Air best, but finding that the design, feature and price pretty much a draw (I personally thought the MBA had a very small edge on Design), I settled on the MBA because of the fact that I can run Windows 7 as well as Mac OS X(which I also use for different purposes)and the better build quality. I have to say, the unibody design really makes the thing feel as if it was carved from one piece of aluminum. There’s minimal flex to speak of. Closed, it just feels so nice in your hands.
The 1.8GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor is a lot better than the 1.2 and 1.4 that are available in the Dells; more than enough for my usage. This might have been a bit meek had I not already had an Intel Core 2 Quad Desktop computer at home. This also made HP ENVY pointless.
The screen is more than adequate and much better than a netbook. Since it’s so light, it really can go anywhere a netbook can. The nice Keyboard and trackpad was also refreshing.
The Solid State Drive is also nice, but after some usage, I really don’t find them all that different from a standard HD, perhaps a bit faster, but not that noticeable. It certainly is cooler and less noisy. Some users have complained about it getting a bit warm, but I’m thinking they’ve got an HD instead of an SSD.
And now for the few CONs:
No optical drive – since I won’t be needing this too often it’s not a big deal. I already have an external Blu-Ray Drive that I used to install everything. Once that was done, I can only image using it for an occasion Blu-Ray/DVD movie, but even this will be rare, unless I’m in a hotel room somewhere and bore out of my mind.
Connectivity:
No Ethernet, big deal! It’s all about wireless!
Weird Mini Display port – also not a big deal since I don’t imaging connecting an external monitor to this much.
Only one USB – This one, I admit, is pretty significant. It was a bit of hassle to swap USB devices a bit, but again, I only use multiple devices a handful of times (mainly a USB DJ Console Mixer and an external USB HD containing the music I want to mix). I got a little griffin USB “Splitter” which was nothing more than a very tiny USB Hub, but it did have some trouble getting enough power to the HD from this one USB port, so I did have to add a USB power cable to the mix (the audio was clipping heavily during mixing and transition). So keep that in mind if you’re planning to daisy-chain three hard drives, a soda cooler and a reading light to the USB port- just don’t. It works fine with the majority of other (low powered) USB devices.
RAM – Here’s the other big CON! While 2GB of RAM will probably be ok for now, but I would have loved having the option of adding more. I have 8GB on my desktop and I actually use it (photo and video editing, media center functions, terminal services, etc.)! While I’m not doing much of that (maybe a little Photoshoping) on this thing, all it takes is that killer application that requires at least 4GB of RAM that I can’t use that will drive me nuts!
I have a first generation Macbook Pro from work and I always loved the design of it. This takes things to the next level. I’m primarily a Windows user, and this seems to work a bit more seamlessly with Windows than the Macbook Pro(although with the latest drivers and software updates for bootcamp from apple, it got better). It’s kinda odd that I went with an Mac to run Windows, but it was a calculated choice. Had I been looking for a full-function laptop, it would have likely been an HP or Dell.

This is the best laptop, maybe the best computer, I have ever owned. I have about 6 weeks time on it, and there are no flaws.
This computer was an experiment for me. For medical reasons, I needed to be able to work with a laptop instead of a desktop (it’s a complicated and personal story). So, I bought this machine with the idea that I could learn to write (that’s what I do) on a machine with a full-sized but compact keyboard and a 13 inch screen. I had been using a keyboard with a separate numerical keypad and a 28 inch flatscreen monitor. This machine doesn’t have a separate numerical keypad, which is one reason why I bought it.
The keyboard is easy upon which to type. Yes, I wish the keyboard was backlighted as the Apple laptop keyboard is, but I knew it wasn’t when I bought it. But it is better than any Microsoft or Logitech unit I have used. Smooth, sharp, accurate.
The screen is a joy — good viewing angles and quite bright.
The built-in sound system is quite good for a laptop, and with earphones all sorts of adjustments are possible.
I had been afraid of Windows 7 as I had done Vista and had returned to XP. But Windows 7 works like you think it should, every time. Things are easier to find and use.
You can read the specs, and they will tell what I found — this is a fast capable machine. I wish it had Intel Wireless Display technology, but I didn’t know about that when I bought it.
One can easily turn off the touch pad so that you can touch-type — a problem I have had with other notebooks and netbooks. I have bought a refurb Logitech notebook mouse which works off a USB port.
This is now my main machine and I am very pleased with it. I have no clue about battery life because I don’t take the machine of mains power.

I’ve been a Gateway fan way back from the days of the cow advertisements in the computer magazines (before they had the stores and then closed the stores). I never once hesitated on looking at this brand when I was shopping around for laptops. Most people tried to push me toward the bigger named ones–Acer, Toshiba, Dell, and HP. After doing extensive comparisons, none of the big brands began to offer the same numbers that the Gateway did, and it was cheaper than the rest. My only concern was buying from Tiger Direct as I previously worked for a computer company that got lots of bad experiences from products they sold. However, they delivered the laptop the very next day from me ordering–no exaggeration. I had the laptop in my hands before I even had the payment showing up on my card. So far not a single hitch. It runs a little bit hot, so that is a factor to keep in mind before using it on your bare legs in the middle of summer. But I’ve got two online games I play (one of which is a system monster) and both run spectacularly. The audio is by far the best I’ve heard from a laptop to date.

I use a laptop for my small consulting business, both as a desk top replacement in my home office and as my primary work tool in customer locations and on the road. I write many reports and travel on a regular basis. Because of this, I found this computer did not meet my needs. The keyboard is flat and not organized in a user friendly fashion, particularly in regards to the arrow and delete buttons. The speakers are of poor quality and sound level so low that that listening to music while working or watching a movie while in a hotel room without head phones is not enjoyable. The touch pad is hard to adjust so that it is not overly sensitive. Battery life is OK, about 2.5 hours, and the processor speed and screen quality is adequate. However, I sent this item back for another laptop that better meets my needs.

I got the newer variant of this (last 3 characters in model name are 20U not 10U), which is supposed to be the same except for more power for the T5xx series. (Lenovo website says both are compatible with my Lenovo T410 computer.)
I thought I had a serious problem because the ethernet port simply would not connect. But I’ve since figured out that it had to do with some configuration problems on our office network (I won’t go into details here, but they were obscure).
The minor problem I find is that the sound seems muted, but I am not worrying too much about that.
So no issues: buy one if you have a compatible system. (Check compatibility on the Lenovo website.)
